Doesn't the camera app do the same thing?
You can use the front facing camera in the camera app and even snap pictures using it, but Mirror was designed to Improve the experience. When launching the camera app, more often than not, it will always be set to the rear facing camera and it'll take several seconds and an extra button tap to see yourself on the screen. Also, with Mirror you can tap anywhere on the screen to freeze the image. This gives you a preview of what the image will look like without having to save a snapshot, then go to the photo library to view it.
